McKenzie Christensen, LCPC
She completed her Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Idaho State University. Later she completed her Masters’ in Counseling also at Idaho State University specializing in marriage, couple, and family counseling. McKenzie enjoys working with a wide range of ages and concerns. Her primary clinical approach is person-centered and family systems. She also utilizes other supportive theories including CBT, play therapy techniques, and Adlerian theory. She is trained in EMDR therapy supporting reprocessing of trauma, depression, anxiety, and other mental health concerns. Also trained in Prepare and Enrich to help premarital couples prepare for marriage and long term couples enrich their relationship. She views individuals and families through a holistic lens, encouraging growth within emotional, physical, spiritual, and relational areas of daily life. McKenzies’ experience includes working with families and couples focusing on communication concerns, family roles, attachment, parenting, and domestic violence. She has also worked with individuals focusing on wide ranges of mental health concerns including depression, anxiety and trauma. She has worked in inpatient psychiatric treatment, a skilled nursing facility, a non profit agency along with various agencies in the community. When she isn’t working you can find her crocheting, crafting, spending time with her family, or fishing.
Guided by Light Counseling provides a safe space for healing by focusing on the whole individual or family, by utilizing counseling based techniques focusing on acceptance, forgiveness, and self-care. Clients will be offered treatment based on individual and family needs and will be involved in treatment throughout the entirety of the process. The overall goal of this practice is to provide healing, support, and change within the community by focusing on the individual and/or family system.
